A Daughter of Delight

A Daughter of Delight

I was single and out of college. It had been years since I had been asked out on a date, and I was searching and striving to find some level of contentment. While I was driving down a beautiful winding road, I was talking to God about wanting to be content but still crying out of my desire to have a life partner.

I came around a bend, looked up in the sky on a typical overcast Chicago-day and noticed some clouds parting. As the sun began to shine through the clouds, I realized the opening formed what looked to be a heart. There before me were sunrays shining through in the shape of a heart. Realizing this, I soaked in the Son-rays of love for me.

In that moment, I felt so pursued and cherished. That the God of the universe would hear the mutterings of a single, young woman and part the clouds to shed a little love to fill her needy heart. I thought to myself, “wow, no matter how amazing a future husband would be, no man on earth could have pulled that off.“ I was delighted in by the one who hold the stars in the sky and paints the sunset on the horizon.

His love knows no bounds. It will not cease or fade or break your heart. His love is relentless, endless, and timeless. “Neither death nor life, neither angels, nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38)

Nothing can separate you from his love. Nothing. You have a different story, a different past, a different present, and a different future. You have different hurts and pains, different challenges and struggles. But you have a heart and soul that need to be loved, treasured, and cherished. Your heart was created to be fought-for and filled with God’s delight.

Without experiencing God’s delight in you, your relationship with him will become a duty rather than a desire. Your relationship will be incomplete like missing the most important piece of a puzzle.

When you turn to him and experience his delight in you, you realize your relationship with him is not focused on your performance. With God’s delight, you are restored, rescued, and rejoiced over. With God’s love, you are calmed and delighted in. So pause. Bask in his love. Revel in the reality, that you are his daughter of delight.
