Life’s Nagging Question

Life’s Nagging Question

A straight forward and clear answer to one of life’s most nagging questions. Proverbs 19:22 uses 7 words to answer the soul searching quest we all find ourselves on in life. What does my soul really desire? What will truly satisfy me? There seems to be a myriad of New York Best Sellers, commercial ads, and magazine covers that attempt to answer this question with anything but the answer before us in Proverbs.

What a person desires is unfailing love.

Proverbs 19:22

This short passage in Proverbs boils all the complexities of our heart and emotions into one simple answer. Our greatest and deepest desire as women is unfailing love.  “Desire” and “unfailing” are key words and their meanings are significant to our understanding of this verse. “Desire” in its original Hebrew language (ta’avah) means to greatly long for, deeply desire, or crave. “Unfailing” means without error or fault, constant and reliable.

So we deeply desire a love that is pure, without error or fault that is constant and reliable. We need an unconditional love that is not dependent on our achievements or worthiness. We crave an unconditional, constant, reliable, relentless, and unfailing love.

You might be asking, “Well where on earth am I supposed to find that?!?”

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love that we may sing for joy and be glad all of our days.

Psalm 90:11

Psalm 90:11 holds a vital key to realizing our soul satisfaction. It tells us that God’s love is unfailing. Interestingly, the original Hebrew word used for “unfailing love” in this verse is used 32 times in Scripture. Every time it is used it is always attributed to the love that comes from God. The phrase is NEVER used to define the kind of love a person can offer. It is ONLY used in conjunction with the type of love offered to us by the Almighty God.

Renee Swope, put it this way, “You see, God put a longing for unfailing love in our hearts, because He knew it would lead us back to Him. Only God’s unfailing love will fill and fulfill the desires of our hearts. It is the deepest thirst of our souls. Until God’s love is enough, nothing else will be.” (A Confident Heart)

So ASK. Ask God to fill the cavernous depths of your heart. Ask him to satisfy you. Ask him to lavish on you his unfailing, un-yeilding, and unending love today.
