Awakening the Soul

Awakening the Soul

Christmas can be an overwhelming time. Life and lights swirl around us but our hearts often decide to just stop. We can feel emotionally dried up or dead if you will, just going through the motions. I’ve been there just ask my husband.

Sadly, this is anthesis of what we should be experience, and yet this is where the Christmas story begins.

Out of the STUMP of David’s family will grow a SHOOT! YES, A NEW BRANCH bearing fruit from the old root! Isaiah 11:1 NLT

Need I state the obvious that a “stump” is the remains of a dormant tree. A tree that is near dead and needed to be cut down and disposed of.  Sorry for the redundancy but this struck me.

Is there something in you that resonates with the stump?

Do you need the Spirit to water your dryness?

And life to shoot out of your desperation?

Jesus enters as the “new Branch” bearing fruit! Shooting out of the stump from the old root. (Note the capital “B” in Branch)

His life, his light, his lessons, and his love give us hope that a new shoot can grow out of any stump. It can spring forth any day, any time, in any season, as his mercies are new every morning.

“The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)

Let the Savior resurrect and redeem that which needs revival by reading and reflecting with a heart of worship! Let us await our Savior and let him awaken our souls.

“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord
and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.
They are like trees planted along a riverbank,
with roots that reach deep into the water.
Such trees are not bothered by the heat
or worried by long months of drought.
Their leaves stay green,
and they never stop producing fruit.”

-Jeremiah 17:7-8 NLT
