3 Exercises to Grow in Gratitude

3 Exercises to Grow in Gratitude

Newsflash Erin –  Thanksgiving is past. But before you look the other way I have a question for you…

Have you ever felt like the Christmas season has surfaced unrealized hopes, unmet expectations, and unrelenting comparisons?

They have for me.

Images of perfectly behaved children in matching Gymboree attire dance in my head. Hopes of a Hallmark holiday for friends and family capture my heart. Dreams of baking something that looks like the picture fixates my hands. The compare snare seems to work overtime in this month, snatching away my heart of thanks-living.

But this Christmas, its time to do something about it.

It is proven that gratitude can change our dreams, our disposition, and even our darn brains. Dan Allendar in To Be Told puts it this way, “An absence of gratitude with regard to our present compels us to change it rather than be transformed by it.”

So what if this holiday season we allow our present to transform us rather than exerting all our effort trying to change it.  What if we cultivated a heart of contentment? What if instead of going in debt, we spent a little more time appreciating the debt Jesus came to pay? What if…?

Two ways:

  2. Stay tuned on Tuesdays in December to ErinNicoleThompson.com for our series  Be Brilliant – Working on the Wonder, Worship, and a “We” instead of “MeMentality this Christmas season.

I truly hope and pray that we will see our hopes realized, our expectations met (or lowered so they can be met), and our compare snare shut up.

Here’s to a Holiday season where we are wowed with wonder, worship, and really profound sense of connection because we are “We” instead of me.

Blessings, Erin
