How to Prepare for God’s Present

When you were getting married, did you spending more time preparing for the wedding day or for being married? (You know the “til death do us part” part).  Us too. The wedding won out.

In hindsight, it seems kind of silly right?  The wedding was one day but marriage, well, that was going to demand a good bit more wisdom and work for days, weeks and years to come.

The Christmas season can be like the lead up to our weddings. There’s a lot of planning, purchasing and partying. Yet all the activities and expectations of the Holidays can overshadow the heart of them.

The challenge is that if we fail to sit and savor our Savior this Holiday season, our hearts on Christmas morning can feel the same as when we open that after-Christmas credit card bill. They can be left Christmas morning void of the love, joy, peace and hope Jesus came to bring.

But what if unlike our wedding preparations, THIS Christmas we shifted our focus and we intentionally set out to sit with and savor our Savior.

How do you imagine your holiday experience might shift? What would be the benefits of this kind of intentionality?

Some of the great truths of life come forth during hiking and while on one of those hikes, someone smarter than I said, “I am learning that anything I want in life takes intentionality.”

We aren’t just going to happen into great parenting or healthy habits. We aren’t going to just happen into a great marriage or close friendships. The things we want in life are going to take some intentionality and my friend intentionality is the undercurrent of Advent. Advent is about intentionally celebrating and remembering the heart of the Holidays, Jesus.

Advent is about setting aside moments each week to remember who Christ is and why he came in hopes that our hearts, our hands, and our hopes would be likened to his.

So if you intentionally set aside some weekly time, I will attempt thru story,  Scripture and song, to help us enter his presence.

This week is about our preparation which entails our intentionality to set aside time to sit and savor our Savior. And my guess is that when we give him our time, he will satisfy our souls.

This week we light the candle of HOPE. Before we read about it in my next post…

  • Let’s begin to anticipate the Hope that was about to enter the world.

  • Let’s anticipate that God’s four-hundred-year silence to his people was about to be broken.

  • Let’s anticipate what the world looked like before Christ and what it was about to look like after him.

  • Let’s anticipate that in just a few weeks heaven was about to invade the earth.

Take a moment to sit in God’s presence and savor the impact of God sending his Son to save the earth.

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. -John 1:1-2 NIV

The Word was Jesus. Get ready because here comes Heaven.

Lyrics of Here Comes Heaven by Elevation Worhsip

Children, weep no more
Hope is on the horizon
Weary world, behold
Your promised Messiah

Angels, let your song begin
Here comes Heaven
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Here comes Heaven

Sinner, wait no more
Love has broken the silence
Come let us adore
The Savior is with us

Angels, let your song begin
Here comes Heaven
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Here comes Heaven
Here comes Heaven

Now, behold His glory
Glory in the highest
All the earth rejoice for Christ is born
Now, behold His glory
Glory in the highest
All the earth rejoice for Christ is born

Over all who mourn
Breaks the dawn of salvation
Darkness reigns no more
For Jesus is greater
He is greater

Angels, let your song begin
Here comes Heaven
