He Heals Me

Do you need emotional, spiritual, mental or physical healing? Jesus desires to heal us to be whole. He did so in the Scriptures and he still does today. This week, we read about an outcast who bled for a dozen years and a little girl who was supposed to have her whole life ahead of her. One sought out her healing and the other just had to rise up. Jesus extravagantly loves us as he heals us to wholeness, both now and later. Jesus may your Kingdom come. May your healing be in our lives, as it is in heaven.

She was only twelve years old. A tween. About seventh grade. That age when we start to come into our own and rebel from our parents. That’s how old the girl was whose life was knocking on death’s door. Her Dad a spiritual leader in the community, known for his religious stature, now desperate for a solution for his daughter.

On the other hand, we see a grown woman. We don’t even know her name but we know her situation. She battled with bleeding for twelve long years. And like throwing salt on a wound, the hemorrhage deemed her unclean so she couldn’t participate in the church life of her community. And so in her desperation she spent all she had for an answer. To no avail.

Both in daunting situations in Luke 8:40-56.

Both in a desperate state.

We don’t really see desperation as a strength, do we? Today, desperation seems more synonymous with the weak, the needy, the hopeless, and the miserable. And if I could be so bold, we might even say desperation is ugly.

It certainly wouldn’t make the cover of Vogue or the local Serenity Magazine.

But what we see in Scripture is that desperation is a divine invitation. A divine invitation that leads to restoration and resurrection. Did you hear that?

Our desperation leads to life! It leads to healing! Jesus as we see in the Gospels is looking to heal us to wholeness - spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically.

But like the woman who allowed nothing to stand in her way. Not the crowd or that Jesus was headed to another job. Not the opinions of others or that nothing had worked before. We need to come to Jesus and let nothing stand in our way.

“You can be a part of the crowd and never get any blessing from being near Jesus! It is one thing to ‘press Him’ and another thing to ‘touch Him’ by faith” (The Wiersbe Commentary, Warren W. Wiersbe, pg. 164).

Oh – that hurts a bit.

We can be in the crowd but not get the blessing. We can “press him” but it’s another thing by faith to “touch him.”

How desperate do you feel for the healing touch of the Savior of the world? Do you need spiritual revival? Emotional balance? Mental wellness? Physical healing?

How would you respond, if Jesus was standing in front of you, peering into your eyes and asking, “What do you want me to do for you?”

Because remember, desperation is a divine invitation. And when we come to him with our needs, we have the chance to be healed and hear, “Daughter, your faith has made you well,” or “My girl, arise!”

I think it’s time we grab his hem or take his hand. Because just a touch of heaven, heals to wholeness.

REQUEST

Jesus, We know you aren’t a genie in the bottle, but we know you desire us to share our needs and ask for healing. Thank you that you bring spiritual renewal, emotional freedom, mental wellness and physical healing. Come Holy Spirit. May your Kingdom come. May we see your glory here and now. Amen.
